Like most cities in México sidewalks in Mérida vary in quality, material, width, height, inclination and just about any variable you can think of. Often the sidewalks are partially or completely blocked by a large tree and its roots. It appears that the responsibility for maintenance of sidewalks is often left to the adjacent property owner.
